Shopping centre has new owner

THE Fresh Fields shopping complex on Proserpine's Main Street changed hands last week for an undisclosed sum.

The new owners are a company called Powercat and run a multitude of shopping centres across Queensland.

Powercat's website says: "The Powercat Group has experience in all aspects of commercial property, from construction and development, through to refurbishment and management."

Powercat director Steve Kay said the acquisition from former owners Ron Ogilvie and Paul Hockings was very new but there were plans for the centre.

"We are in the process of negotiations to have the two vacant shops filled with new tenants," he said.

"We would certainly like to see the centre full and will commence planning on a new colour scheme and full re-paint of the centre in modern and appealing   colours." Powercat is a Stanthorpe-based company which manages shopping centres on behalf of a group of investors.

Proprietor of the Fresh Fields News and Gifts shop, Barb Cochrane said she knew the complex was in the process of being sold and met with representatives of Powercat when they recently inspected the property.

"I think filling the shops would be a positive thing for the centre and the town. I don't know who it's going to be though," she said.
