Shopping centre project assists with back-to-school worries

GOING back to school has been made that much easier thanks to Operation Backpack.

Kingaroy Shoppingworld, in partnership with St Vincent de Paul, has launched the back-to-school program.

Operation Backpack is an initiative to ensure families in need receive everything necessary for their children to start the coming school year.

The program encourages residents and local business to dig deep and donate much needed school supplies such as pens, pencils, glue, calculators, exercise books, lunch boxes or backpacks.

Residents and local businesses are encouraged to buy items and place them in the collection bin located outside Big W.

Centre manager at Kingaroy Shoppingworld, Chris O'Rourke said it could be tough for families getting the children ready for the new school year.

"We understand how expensive it can be for families getting school supplies together each term and we wanted help out our community," he said.

"While it might seem like such a small gesture for many people, every donation can make a real change to families in need in the community."

All donated items, big or small, are evenly distributed to families in the region by St Vincent de Paul.

Operation Backpack will run January 2 until January 21 2019.
