Sign-on and car wash on this Saturday

AFTER a long off-season spent working on team camaraderie and fitness the East Coast Diesel Whitsunday Raiders will kick off their 2013 campaign with a sign-on and pre-season carnival this Saturday.

Held from 1.30pm at the Whitsunday Sports Park, the Raiders sign-on and pre-season carnival will also include a fundraising carwash to help raise money for the club.

Players and their partners will be helping out at the carwash with punters able to park their car and enjoy a great afternoon of rugby and then return to a sparkling clean car.

Sign-on will commence at 1.30pm before the round robin games kick off between visiting teams Kuttabul, Mackay Cities, the Bowen Mudcrabs and the hosting Raiders.

Raiders' representative Sharron Pratt was excited to announce that the Raiders will be fielding a first grade and reserve grade team in the Mackay competition for the first time in many years.

"Following on from the success of last year we are thrilled to be able to field two teams in 2013. It hasn't happened in a long time and we are looking forward to seeing some new players come down for the sign-on this Saturday," she said.

"We have a big day planned for Saturday, there will be a real carnival like atmosphere and the games will be a bit of fun and a great way to get rid of some cobwebs," she said.

Mrs Pratt said that a full canteen with liquor licence will be running all afternoon and encouraged players and spectators to come down and check out the rugby action.

"There will be beautiful girls running the car wash and some great rugby action so it should be a really great day," she said.

Anyone who can't make the sign-on but is interested in playing for the Raiders should call coach Hemi Taukiri on 0403 001 410.
