STUDENTS from Proserpine State High School were taken on the simulated ride of their lives during a visit from Air Force air crew last Thursday.

Transported from the classroom into the cockpit of a F/A-18F Super Hornet, the students used flight simulators to gain first-hand experience operating Australia's front-line strike fighter.

Guided by seven Air Force personnel, participants from Years 8-11 moved through three stations executing a virtual take-off and landing, air traffic control duties and acting as Super Hornet air crew in a simulated cockpit with a 3D surround screen.

PSHS Marketing and Communications Officer Nicole Jolley said it had been an amazing experience for the students as they approach their future career pathways.

”It was a really good thing to be part of. The kids got a very hands-on experience of those particular roles in the Air Force,” Ms Jolley said.

"They had an absolutely fantastic time.

"They just don't get to do things like that here very often.”

The students were scored on their suitability for roles throughout the exercise with students Jim Smith and Tessa Jolley taking top honours.

Tessa also scored highest in the district.

Overall, the event was a great success with participants having been exposed to the Air Force and jobs within it as well as their suitability to exciting career paths.
