Smoke scare at airport caused by RAAF plane

UPDATE: Smoke in a defence force plane was the cause of an emergency services call-out to Whitsunday Coast Airport last night.

Whitsunday Regional Council airports and commercial infrastructure manager Brian Joiner said emergency services were called to a smoke incident in the cockpit of the Royal Australian Air Force plane.

The C27 Spartan plane remained at the airport last night and was still there this afternoon.

The Royal Australian Air Force was contacted for comment.

EARLIER: EMERGENCY crews were called to Whitsunday Coast Airport this evening.

Two Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews arrived on the scene at 8.25pm and investigated the source of smoke.

Queensland Ambulance Service treated a person for smoke inhalation.

More information to come.
