Socially distant Schoolies? Try an island on for size

WHILE the class of 2020 will soon put their pens down on final exams, the pandemic has put a dampener on typical post-school celebrations.

However, a new tour that takes in some of the top sights across Queensland means there’s plenty of room for festivities despite COVID.

Drive ‘n’ Dive Tours has launched a Schoolies experience where travellers venture across six islands in six days.

The tour starts on the Gold Coast and rounds out in Townsville with a pit stop in the Whitsundays.

Schoolies will travel by luxury coach between the destinations and take part in a range of underwater experiences including scuba diving lessons.

During their visit to the Whitsundays, Schoolies will travel by high-speed catamaran to Hill Inlet and Whitehaven Beach.

Drive ‘n’ Dive Tours managing partner Michelle Billett said while this was a slightly different take on their usual tours, the team was more than happy to jump in and help school leavers celebrate.

“COVID-19 has disrupted end-of-year plans for many school leavers,” she said.

“This Island Hopper Drive’ n’ Dive guided tour is a reliable, safe and hassle-free way for Year 12 students to celebrate the end of their school years.”

Ms Billett said the tour would also raise awareness around marine conservation and sustainability.

Tourism Whitsundays CEO Tash Wheeler welcomed the new experience and said there was plenty for Schoolies to discover.

“It’s great to see such a unique tour offering for school leavers that will complement our existing tour products,” she said.

“We have outer reef diving experiences thanks to Cruise Whitsundays and Explore Group as well as a number of inner dive experiences around the Whitsunday Islands.

“The Whitsundays has some of the best diving in the country; the school leavers on this tour will be thrilled with the diverse diving and marine life available throughout the Whitsunday marine park.”

The tours will run from November 21 and 28 with prices from $2229.
