Son enters plea over Airlie Beach mum’s cold case killing

The son of slain Airlie Beach woman Dorothy Britton has formally pleaded not guilty to her cold case murder.

The case was briefly mentioned in Mackay Supreme Court on Monday.

Christopher Mark Britton appeared in person to be arraigned by Justice David North over his mother’s alleged murder 25 years ago.

He is charged with shooting Ms Britton in the face on or about March 6, 1996 at Jubilee Pocket.

Her body was found a day later when relatives arrived to find her front door open and a shotgun missing from her home.

He was arrested in June 2018.

“Not guilty your honour”, Mr Britton said as Justice North appeared via videolink from Townsville.

The court heard a pre-trial hearing in relation to the case would begin on Tuesday.
