Beyond the rainbow: Sophie's final dash for dad

THE strollers passing Sophie Morris (pictured) on her daily jog down Charlton Esplanade would never suspect the pain she has been through.

The 22-year-old lost her dad Shayne less than two years ago after his three year battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

He was only 49-years-old and his passing left his family devastated.

To help others affected by the disease and find a cure for cancer, Sophie has run more than 100km this month as part of the Cancer Council's March Charge and along the way she has raised about $1116.

The national fundraiser's target is $1,350,000. With only two more days left, she hopes generous individuals will dig deep to help her out.

The grade three teacher at Torquay's Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School hit the pavement before lessons each morning to cover between 6 and 10km.

She said the effort was easy compared to the struggle faced by those with the sickness and their families.

"Not only has cancer broken my heart though the loss of my dad, but it has affected so many people around me and taken their loved ones too," she said.

A "beyond the rainbow" tattoo inked on her shoulder a year after her dad's passing is a permanent reminder of him.
