Speaker to visit our schools

THE Speaker of the Queensland Parliament, Honourable John Mickel, is visiting local schools in the Whitsundays this week.

Mr Mickel will be speaking to students about the planned sitting of the Regional Parliament in Mackay next May.

“Even though May next year may seem a fair way off, I would like to see groups making definite plans now to be part of the regional sitting of Parliament in Mackay”, Mr Mickel said.

Member for Whitsunday, Jan Jarratt said Mackay would become only the fourth city in the State's history to host a meeting of the Queensland Parliament.

“This is a great opportunity for local schools to meet with the Speaker and find out how they can become involved in this significant event,” Ms Jarratt said.

He visited St Catherine's and Proserpine State School yesterday and will visit Whitsunday Christian College and Cannonvale State School today.

Mr Mickle will also attend a remembrance day service in Proserpine this morning.
