Brusasco wants Newman to apologise

FORMER Gladstone Ports Corporation chairman Ian Brusasco has hit back at comments made last week by Premier Campbell Newman about budget over-runs and reckless spending.

Mr Brusasco says the corporation's sponsorship, advertising and corporate entertainment expenditure budget had not been exceeded, and that there had been no reckless spending.

"It would be most fitting if Premier Newman was to observe the courtesy of making a public apology not only to me, but to the other Gladstone Ports Corporation directors, and to every single dedicated employee of this organisation," he said in a statement.

"A simple phone call seeking an explanation of the supposed additional expenditure would have excused him from his unseemly and unnecessary behaviour.

"The additional expenditure in sponsorship and advertising during year-to-date was requested by the coal exporters and LNG companies and has been fully funded by them."

Advice on these matters was passed on to the Queensland Government.
