Sports park decision questioned

CANNONVALE resident Barb Adamson took Whitsunday Regional Council to task about its recent decision to lease the Havengrand sports park land during public question time at yesterday's ordinary council meeting.

In confidential matters at the council meeting of June 13 a motion was passed that tenders be called for the lease of the majority of the land for agricultural purposes, for a term of 10 years.

Ms Adamson asked why potential users and broader community were not consulted. "Why can't the clubs who want to use the Havengrand land start to use it?" Ms Adamson asked.

"And why can't the land be sold - why tie it up for 10 years? Does this current council concede that it was a bad decision to buy Havengrand and that too much money was paid for it?" she said.

Council's mayor Jennifer Whitney said Ms Adamson's questions would be taken on notice and she would receive a response in due course.
