WHILE other boats waiting for Airlie Beach Race Week are sitting on anchor, Andrew Stransky and his daughter Mara are fine tuning their tactical skills by racing with the Whitsunday Sailing Club's off-beach group.

Stransky, the owner, designer and builder of 51-foot catamaran Fantasia, won the Multihull Division One at the 2014 Airlie Beach Race Week.

Following his victory, he took line honours in the Great Whitsunday Fun Race.

The Stransky family are from Manly, Queensland, and as well as racing Fantasia, are very keen off-beach sailors.

Andrew finished in the top third of the very competitive Laser fleet at the South Pacific Masters Titles held at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron earlier this year.

Mara is a member of the Queensland Youth Sailing team and part of an elite group at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron who train throughout the week and at weekends, receiving expert advice on diet, exercise and the mental attitude required to win championships.

Last Sunday was week three of the sailing club's Learn to Race program, with the group concentrating on preparation for rounding the leeward mark and the buoy room rule.

After a morning of coaching, the off-beach group held three races of session three of the Spring Series.

Luke Mairs, Mara Stransky and Andrew Stransky each won a race after the final results were calculated.

There will be no off-beach training or racing during Airlie Beach Race Week.
