Squadron Leader no ordinary job

ANITA Green was always after adventure.

And she certainly found it when she left Rockhampton as a 21-year-old to join the Royal Australian Air force and pursue a career.

Your average job doesn't exactly see you needing time out to go and complete weapons training.

But that's exactly what Anita's positions in the air force have always entailed.

Anita is a Squadron Leader and has spent 18 years with the air force. She is currently in a HR role and said while it sounds like any other job; it has got some differences.

"(The job) is more than I thought it'd be," Anita said.

"It's very broad when it comes to policies and procedures, but it's an interesting area because you can work in a unit that looks after super hornets (the air force's jets), or you can be in a unit looking after HR for the air fields defence guards."

Anita's also had the chance to share her experiences with others, as she has helped in the recruiting process.

"I've done a few years in recruiting in centres around the country," Anita said.

"(The air force) gives people discipline, drive, adventure and career opportunities.

"It's not just being a soldier or pilot either; there are dentists, doctors and fire fighters."

Anita is sharing her story of being in the air force to Rockhampton women at a Busi Women breakfast event this month.

"I heard about the event looking for a female leadership role (and) I love giving back, it's a really great opportunity," Anita said.
