Staggering price tag on Norman’s estate

Greg Norman, aka the Great White Shark of pro golf, is relisting his Jupiter Island beach home for a whopping $78 million (AUD) after 14 years of rebuilding it.

The Florida estate was first listed back in 2007 for $85 million before it was rebuilt.

Norman, 65, purchased the property for only $6.4 million in 1991. Since then, the property has expanded by nearly 6800 square feet using a permit that was set to expire.

In total, the properties sit on an 8.31-acre lot spanning 31,820 square feet. It includes eight houses in total - the main house, a coach house, a pool house, a tennis house, a boat house, a carriage house and a beach house - plus a 5000-square-foot basement.

The Aussie golf legend took a break from discussing his "hilarious" bulge photo that went viral to tell the Miami Herald that his real estate "vision was to create a sanctuary."

The main house has 10 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, with oceanfront views and complete privacy. It includes a US Open regulation-size tennis court, a fitness centre, a movie theatre, an elevator, two main pools, a spa, a 1,900-bottle wine cellar, a bar and a gourmet kitchen.

"My wife and I feel it is time to move on after 30 years here," Norman told the outlet. "COVID-19 and the whole pandemic experience, with social distancing and being isolated from our families - most of whom live overseas - this past year has made us realise how short life truly is and has caused us to re-evaluate how and where we want to spend the rest of our lives."

He added of the home: "Memories here are numerous and endless, and they will be forever etched in our minds."

The 2001 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee with the highest percentage of votes (80 per cent) of any linkster to date, Norman spent 331 weeks as the world's No. 1 officially ranked golfer. He has won 89 professional tournaments in total, including 20 PGA Tour tournaments and two majors, the Open Championships in 1986 and 1993.

Norman also made headlines in November when he detailed the severe COVID-19 symptoms that "kicked the crap" out of him, causing him to return to a hospital after initially thinking he had beat the worst of the disease.

"I am fit and strong and have a high tolerance for pain, but this is like nothing I have ever experienced before," Norman wrote on Instagram at the time.
