Starfish roundabout to be redesigned
THE starfish roundabout at the top end of the Airlie Beach main street is no more.
The design was removed to allow the roundabout to be repaired, with a new design yet to be decided upon.
"The roundabout had sustained damage with the concrete sides splitting and becoming a hazard for motorists," a council spokesperson said.
"It has now been refurbished with a new concrete kerb and a concrete centre island.
"The decorative construction to be placed on the roundabout is still to be determined."
The spokesperson said the starfish had always been a temporary fix.
"I can also confirm that the previous starfish design which consisted of coloured rocks was temporary only and did not form any part of the intended refurbishment scheduled for this financial year," they said.
