Stoner wins at track he 'hates'

AUSTRALIAN star Casey Stoner has overcome arm circulation issues and track he "hates" to record his first win in the MotoGP at Jerez in Spain.

After a disappointing qualifying and a cautious start to the race, Stoner worked his way to the front after a handful of laps and held off series leader Jorge Lorenzo with Dani Pedrosa finishing third.

Stoner said there were a lot of wet patches on the track and it was easy to make a mistake, so it was a matter of "managing the race for the conditions".

"As they improved I pushed a little more ... the bike on the whole felt much better than in qualifying," he said.

"I did get some arm pump again, but thankfully not to the extent I had it in Qatar.

"Considering the weekend in general and how fast Dani and Jorge are at this track, to win here is something very special for me".

Lorenzo now leads the series on 45 points with Stoner on 41 and Pedrosa on 36.
