Stosur jumps to No.5 in rankings

THE blow to Samantha Stosur following her shock semi-final loss to Sara Errani at the French Open has been softened with a jump from world No.6 to No.5 on the rankings list.

Maria Sharapova had already secured the No.1 ranking after reaching the final at Roland Garros, with Victoria Azarenka slipping down a spot to the No.2.

The biggest mover in the rankings after Paris was Errani, who jumped from No.24 in the world to No.10.

Errani also went from being the fourth-highest ranked Italian player in the world to the No.1 from her country, ousting 2010 French Open champion Francesca Schiavone from the top spot.

Last year's French Open winner Li Na dropped out of the top 10 and now sits at No.11 after a poor showing on the Roland Garros clay.

Stosur now has another grand slam to shift her attention to with the Wimbledon championships to start on June 25.

The 28-year-old surprisingly boasts only five wins and one third-round appearance from her nine starts at the All England Club.

"I hope I can look forward to Wimbledon," she said.

"That's always been a very tough tournament for me.
