Police thank community after four-hour lockdown

UPDATE: A POLICE chase that lasted for more than four hours has ended in the arrest of a 31-year-old man.

Parts of Wilsonton Heights went into lockdown about 1.30pm with police searching for a suspect.

The search started about 1pm when a 31-year-old was located by police at an Erica Crt address.

Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Sergeant Brian Collins said the person was identified by police as being wanted on a warrant to be returned to prison.

"He has run from police at a Wilsonton address shortly after 1pm," he said.

"The dog squad has been deployed and has tracked him to the Wilsonton Heights area."

Road blocks were established between Miranda Dr, Seppelt St and the intersection of Duncan St and Traminer Dr.

The suspect was arrested in Watervale St about 5.15pm.

Det. Sgt. Collins said police arrested and charged a 31-year-old man with a number of offences including obstructing police and trespassing.

"Police want to thank members of the public in the Wilsonton Heights area for their assistance and patience," he said.

No police were injured in the lengthy search.

EARLIER: Police have locked down several streets in Wilsonton Heights, Toowoomba as they search for a man.

Vehicles are not being allowed into or out of the cordoned off area.

The offender has been seen running through several backyards of private properties.

The police dog squad is being used in the search.

The police chase started in Erica Ct, Wilsonton Heights, about 1.45pm.
