Students explore Japan’s sites

TOO busy to talk because they're hitting the snow decks in Hakuba in Japan, about 20 students from Proserpine State High School are having the time of their lives on an excursion across the seas.
The high school students have been in Japan for more than one week now touring the countryside and city sights, eating authentic food and learning the cultural history. They have three days of their trip left.
Accompanied by teacher and sports co-ordinator Sam Wilson, the students have endured long bus trips and short bullet train rides to reach some of the most famous destinations in the world such as Kyoto, Hiroshima and Tokyo.
Mr Wilson said Hiroshima was a very confronting experience for some.
They have also visited the Golden Pavilion, followed by the Nijo Castle and finally Kiyomizu Dera.
Mr Wilson said the snowboarding conditions in Hakuba were good, with a mixture of overcast and sunny weather.
The snowboarding part of the excursion finshed last night with a Japanese drumming show.
Today the students will travel to their sister school Asaka Nishi High School in Saitama Prefecture.
They will spend two nights with host families where they will get to experience what life is really like for Japanese teens.
