Students pay respect to the Anzacs
CADETS, former service personnel, staff members and students hung their heads as the last post sounded at the Proserpine State High School yesterday. (Today)
School captains Bree Jolley and Malachi Lane read moving verses to the crowd and wreaths were laid at the foot of the school's cenotaph.
Malachi said he had long been a participant at Proserpine Anzac Day services and was able to make a direct connection between the sacrifice made by Australian and New Zealand forces and the freedom we enjoy today.
"I have been going to Anzac Day ceremonies all my school years. Their sacrifice they made when they went over to Gallipoli really sets an example for us as a generation," he said.
"As a country we are united as one when it comes to a time of war, we give our lives and die for our country. And being there to remember the sacrifice they made shows the leadership and dedication towards what they have done for our country."
Deputy principal Ian Dachs said the school had conducted the wreath laying ceremony since the building of the cenotaph in the school grounds in 2013.
Mr Dachs said annually between 70 and 200 Proserpine State High School students participated at the Cannonvale and Proserpine Anzac Day services.
