Stunt riders to boost Supermoto Champs

ACTION from the Australian Supermoto Championships will be heightened by the presence of stunt rider Matty Mingay and the explosive Hot Wheels Stunt Team.

Mingay and the stunt show will be appearing at the Reef Gateway Hotel on Friday, June 13 from 4.30pm, where they have organised a meet and greet especially for the championships.

The stunt show will take place in the Reef Gateway's carpark, while Mingay and the team will appear right across the weekend at the Whitsunday Raceway (Lacelles Rd, Proserpine).

The Hot Wheels Stunt Team will also perform at the Proserpine Ex-Services Club on Saturday, June 14 from 5pm.

"I'm the only one in Australia stunt riding on a Harley Davidson so it's definitely something different for the crowd," he said.

"We always gain a few extra fans. The audience usually leaves gob smacked about what can be done on a 250kg Harley...they'll have a grin from ear-to-ear."

Mingay and fellow stunt rider Tjay Orsum will perform stunts in-between races at the Australian Supermoto Championships, including wheelies and burnouts just to entertain the crowd.

"I love it. I've been riding bikes since I was six-years-old," Mingay said.

"To look at the crowd and see them cheering and screaming is always a good buzz."

Mingay said he would provide riders with coaching advice, albeit with a cautious approach. "I'm always willing to give a helping hand. We'll be teaching them [riders] wheelies and other things but safety is always the number one priority," Mingay said.

"Hopefully everyone comes out and says hi, grabs some posters and some Hot Wheel Stunt merchandise."

The Australian Supermoto Championships will run from Friday, June 13 to Sunday, June 15.
