
Sugar content holds steady
CANEGROWERS Proserpine manager Mike Porter says the 2015 Show Whitsunday Cane Competition results indicate a similar sugar content to last year.
In the Six Stalks of Plant Cane division, Glenn Clarke won the Town Branch, A.P. and L.J. Pini came out on top in Up River, D.J. and A.M. Lee claimed Kelsey Creek, Watts Farming won Lethebrook, E.L. and O.H. Altmann got the gold in Gregory/Strathdickie, Bill Matthews was the champ in Cannonvalley/Preston and Jeppesen Farming topped the podium in Bloomsbury/Elaroo.
In the Six Stalks of Ratoon Cane, R. and L. Biggs won for Town, A.P. and L.J. Pini were again victors for Up River, R.H. Lade had top crop for Kelsey Creek, B.J. and B.L. Holcombe claimed Lethebrook, Jeffrey Ruddell topped Gregory/ Strathdickie, B.E. and C.L. Penhallurick bested Cannonvalley/Preston, and Jeppesen Farming again won Bloomsbury/Elaroo.
Champion Six Stalks went to Watts Farming, while Champion Stool of Plant Cane went to Frank Clayton.
The returning B.J. and B.L. Holcombe stole the show this year however, taking out Champion Stool of Ratoon Cane, Heaviest Stalk, Highest CCS of Q183, Highest Quantity of Commercial Cane Sugar in Six Stalks of Ratoon and Plant Cane, and the Canegrowers Proserpine Insurance Trophy.
