Sun shining in the Whitsundays

WHILE much of the state remains flood stricken, the Whitsunday region remains flood free.

With more flood threats hitting the south of the state in the past 24 hours, Whitsunday residents have received many calls from concerned family and friends in southern states.

As Queensland is such a big state, it is sometimes difficult for people in southern states to understand the distances between the flooded areas and the central and northern regions.

Although many homes have been destroyed and lives lost in the wake of the disastrous floods in southern townships of Rockhampton, Lockyer, Toowoomba and many others, Whitsunday residents have woken up to sun shine for the past five days.

While many regions continue to fight rain, wind and more wild weather, there have been no official flood warnings or severe weather warnings issued for the region by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).
