Superboats a blast in Bowen

STRAP in folks, it's time to feel the need for speed.

Returning to Bowen after last year's inaugural event, the Offshore Superboat Championships will have audiences on the edge of their seats.

Bowen Tourism and Business events co-ordinator Rae Ernst-Kelly said the event was a great way to get up close and personal to these impressive machines.

"Bowen is actually one of the closest courses to the onshore town in any of the Superboat rounds," she said.

Racing kicks off on Saturday, July 18, with the pole position shootouts in Edgecombe Bay along Bowen's foreshore, followed by a street parade after dark.

Ms Ernst Kelly said the parade saw Bowen come alive with stalls and live music.

"It's also a great opportunity for people to get up close and meet the drivers, and not only see the boats but some of the boats are on some pretty brilliant big rigs," she said.

A transfer bus is available for door to door pick ups in Cannonvale and Airlie Beach for $40 return.
