Support for Prossie PBR grows
THERE has never been a better time for the Whitsundays to attract a PBR event to the region according to Tourism Whitsunday CEO Craig Turner.
Earlier this year Proserpine's very own Emma Deicke won the prestigious Miss Rodeo Australia crown.
She has since been busy travelling the country, attending agricultural shows and visiting schools, but she would love the chance to stay at home and take on her official role as Miss Rodeo Australia in her own backyard.
"We really need a really loyal and committed group of people who really want to see it happen in the Whitsundays,” she said.
"It's not just a one person job (but) I will do whatever it takes to get one here.”
Emma said she was sure professional bull riding legend and Proserpine local Troy Dunn would also love to have a PBR event in Proserpine.
Mr Turner pledged the support of Tourism Whitsundays.
"After Emma winning the Miss Rodeo event I would think that there would not be a better time to try and develop an event such as a PBR event,” he said.
"The event would need a number of stakeholders and Tourism Whitsunday would be more than happy to have that discussion with Emma, Troy Dunn, the Proserpine Chamber of Commerce and the Whitsunday Regional Council.
"Emma winning was a fantastic result for the region, now it is a matter of how we actually leverage a positive outcome for Proserpine.
"We have a Miss Rodeo Australia winner living in Proserpine, how do we actually convert that to promoting Proserpine and spending money in Proserpine?
"If ever there was an opportunity for a PBR event now is the time,” Mr Turner said.
