Survivors to share touching stories
WHEN Cyclone Ada tore through the Whitsunday region in 1970, it had an everlasting effect on all those involved.
Now, 46 years later, those who worked on boats and surrounding islands at the time of the ordeal have come together to share their stories.
Locals are invited to attend the launch of a booklet which features the individual stories of some who survived.
The booklet, titled Cyclone Ada Marine Crew 1970, details the personal stories, experiences and survival tactics used during the severe Category 4 cyclone.
The event will be held at the Reef Gateway Hotel next week and organiser Gloria DeMartini said it would be the first time some of the survivors had seen each other since the disaster.
"We have survivors coming from Sydney to Cairns and it'll be lovely for them to reconnect with old friends from 46 years ago," Ms DeMartini said.
