Suspicious items lead to arrest

ONE Cannonvale man became a little too frustrated when he was not allowed to deliver a package to a friend while in Airlie Beach.

On Monday, the Proserpine Magistrates Court heard how on December 29, Kym Joseph Barradeen attended Nomads Backpackers Hostel to deliver a package to a friend who was staying in a dorm.

Civilian lawyer prosecutor Chris Bennett said when security refused his entry, Barradeen became argumentative and refused to leave before delivering the package. At 12.15am, police were contacted and directed to Barradeen who looked nervous.

Upon searching Barradeen, a tablet was found inside his wallet as well as a large quantity of money. Barradeen told police there was roughly $500-1000 in his wallet when in actual fact, a total of $1872.35 was counted.

Barradeen changed his story of how he received the money multiple times.

Police suspected the money would be used to carry out a drug offence.

Barradeen was given a total fine of $750 for possessing dangerous drugs and holding money believed to be used for another offence.
