SWIMMING: The Cannonvale Cannons have warmed up for the upcoming swimming season by jumping in the pool for the Townsville Brothers Meet at the weekend.

Cannons head coach Mark Erickson said the goal for the carnival was for members to advance their times.

"The main objective of the meet was to provide swimmers with opportunities to improve times and to also give north Queensland swimmers an opportunity to qualify for the state short course (titles)," he said.

Erickson said Bowen swimmers Gus and Eden Hedges, who regularly train at Cannonvale, did exceptionally well and "smashed everything" they entered.

Gus swam his 50m butterfly in a fantastic time of 43 seconds, while Eden also performed very well in all her swims.

Erickson said Eden's best performances were in the 200m IM, which she clocked in 2.35 minutes, and the 400m freestyle in which she took a staggering 30 seconds off her previous time.

Eden has now qualified for nine events ahead of the state short course titles.

Chloe Robertson was also in the thick of the action, swimming PBs in her 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Chloe has qualified for two extra swims for the state short course later this month.

Jy Parkinson also competed well, one of his strongest efforts coming in the 50m butterfly, clocking an impressive 40 seconds.

Ky and Rylee Erickson were also in the thick of the action, with Ky swimming his 100m freestyle in less than 1.10 minutes.

Rylee's best swim came in the 100m backstroke when she took six seconds off her previous time.

Newcomer Evie Herlihy also achieved PBs in all her swims across the weekend.
