Taipans have mixed results
THE under-12/13 Proserpine Taipans continued their season last weekend with two matches played in Mackay.
The first game of the day was against Magpies (black) and the Taipans made their parents proud posting a 2-1 win.
Hunter Mansfield scored the first goal for the Taipans after several solid attempts.
David Mittlestadt made some good runs to get the ball into their opponents half and was backed up strongly by Zane and Jake Kennedy and Bailey Condon.
Hunter then showed his skills to score the Taipans second goal.
It wasn’t long after that when Magpies scored their only goal on the stroke of half time.
Jared Forsyth, Josh Moulton, Tim and Jack McAllister returned to the paddock in the second half in the back line and what great defence these boys showed, keeping their opponents scoreless for the entire half.
They worked hard all half assisting Macauley Munro in keeping the ball out of net.
The Taipans second game was against the undefeated Alligator Creek who continued their reign with an 8-0 win over the local side.
This was the biggest loss of the year for the Taipans but they were never deterred by their strong opposition.
To the Taipans credit, their backs never gave up with Jared Forsyth, Josh Moulton, Bailey Condon and Hunter Mansfield and Macauley Munro as goalie keeping the pressure on and Alligator Creek.
The Taipans were unlucky not to be able to have too much play at their end and in the second half the side got a second wind and fought very hard out on the field. Aden Spence was able to have the first attempt at goal but missed out as did Matt Shoebridge.
The coach’s player of the day award went to Hunter Mansfield for playing exceptionally well in both games.
The Taipans will enjoy a weekend of this weekend and return to action the following week.
