INDOOR CRICKET: A talented team of ten-year-olds have delivered a state championship trophy to Mackay.

The Mackay U10 indoor cricket team travelled to Toowoomba last month for their first taste of the Junior State Championships.

The trip proved successful for the team, with the young group storming over Strathpine in the final to deliver the State Title victory.

Coach Troy Lotts said he was extremely proud of the team's performance which saw them win eight of their nine pool games, their only loss coming by 3 runs.

"They did very well,” Lott said.

"The big thing about it was that they beat all the Brisbane teams who have their own competitions and train every week.

"Our boys all play outdoor and only trained together two times but they were absolutely brilliant.”

The coach highlighted the performances of player of the final Lachlan Doolan and captain Charles Lott who was named in the honorary Queensland U10 All Star team.

He also praised the players' parents for their commitment to delivering the children an opportunity to travel.

The 2017 junior State Titles in Toowoomba were the largest ever held with over 300 players competing.

In total, Mackay sent seven teams to the event, with 55 players pulling on the colours of the region.

On top of the success of Mackay's youngest team, the region's U12 team also tasted success before falling to Strathpine in the final.

Despite his team not coming home as champions, Ryleigh Wotherspoon ensured some U12 silverware returned to Mackay after being named age group's Player of the Tournament.
