Teams solve cryptic clues in crazy scavenger hunt
IT'S not every day you get to dress like a nurse or a doctor and run all over the Whitsundays on a quest to have riotous fun while raising money for a good cause.
But that is exactly what 13 teams of four people were doing on Sunday as they completed tasks and scavenged objects.
Gill Graham from Gill's Paws and Claws explained why they were doing it.
"Because we love having fun,” she said.
When her daughter gave birth at Proserpine Hospital six months ago Ms Graham was so impressed with the maternity team she decided to give them something in return.
"They were fantastic and they need all the support they can get,” she said.
After contacting the hospital Ms Graham and Paula Brewer were told the maternity section could certainly use any donation.
The teams had 47 clues which had to be solved. After the successful completion of a task, including the group eating of ice cream and taking a bus ride, a new clue would be offered that would set a new task for the teams.
The 13 teams each paid $100 to enter and some donated on top of the entry fee for the scavenger hunt.
Kellie Chart, whose team was called Highway to Hell, said it was a fun day but also tough.
"They put a lot of hard work into it. Hats off to Paula and Gill, it was very cryptic and it certainly got us thinking. We are very proud of ourselves that we finished,” she said.
