Tearing up the track
FOR the first time ever Whitsunday Dirt Riders Club played host to a round of the Queensland Dirt Track Titles series.
On Easter Sunday and Monday, more than 100 riders from across Queensland took to the Dray Park track to compete in the final round of the 2011 series.
The titles saw some of the State’s most recognisable riders take to the track while it also gave those just starting out in the sport a chance to strut their stuff in the demonstration class.
Local dirt riders Chucky Lee-Burgess, Andrew McLeish and Dale Borlase put their best foot forward, all finishing with top three placings in their respective events. Event organiser Kev Burgess said he was more than pleased with the titles, in particularly with the standard of racing that took part on the track.
"I travel up and down the eastern seaboard racing and all the riders were here," he said.
"There were plenty of spectators and the standard of racing was excellent.
"Everyone was on the edge of their seats."
Burgess also said he had received great feedback about the Proserpine track and hoped to see more State-wide events held in the region in the coming years.
"The Brisbane riders were raving about our race meet and our track," he said.
"They went back with smiles on their faces."
