Teen charged after Schoolies fight in Airlie Beach

A FIGHT allegedly broke out at a Schoolies dance party between two 17-year-old girls from Mackay last night.

One of the girls was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm after she allegedly struck the other girl on the face at a party at Airlie Beach.

The alleged offender was arrested at 8.30pm, taken to the Whitsunday watch house and later bailed out.

The other girl sustained bruising and swelling to her face but did not require transport to hospital.

A police spokesman said the two girls were known to each other prior to the alleged assault.

He said there had been a verbal altercation leading to the incident.

The alleged offender will appear in Proserpine Magistrates Court on December 7.
