Bungling thief caught stealing a car, again
A NORTH Deep Creek teenager who stole a quad bike while drunk was convicted of stealing a vehicle for the second time in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday.
Travis Jarred Vick, 18, who was on a good behaviour bond for stealing a portable toilet from a council worksite last year, pleaded guilty to the charge as well as drug production and two counts of drug possession.
The court heard Vick was walking past a property on February 2, while drunk, and used a screw driver to start a quad bike parked there.
Vick's lawyer, Chris Anderson, told the court he rode the bike home but was too embarrassed to return it the next day.
On March 29, witnesses reported seeing Vick riding the bike on the road.
When police visited Vick to question him on May 14, they discovered 46 marijuana plants in the yard; mostly in pots and ranging in size from two to 30cm.
On April 23, Vick was also found carrying 34 grams of marijuana when he was pulled over on Old Maryborough Rd.
Magistrate M. Baldwin said it was not a good start for someone at his age to be convicted of stealing a vehicle twice, and sentenced him to six months probation and that he forfeit a $600 recognisance.
He was also ordered to attend drug diversion and placed on good behaviour for six months with a $600 recognisance for drug offences.
