Teens harass police outside their station

A TEENAGER has faced court for yelling obscenities and insults at police outside an Ipswich police station.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court last week, Brandon Hastings pleaded guilty to two counts of public nuisance.

The 18-year-old and his friend had been swearing at police and shouting 'come and get us you pigs' from the steps of the station.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Jo Colston said the incident took place on December 26. Earlier that month, Hastings was involved in a punch-up with an ex-flatmate at an Ipswich shopping centre.

Defence lawyer Natasha Shorter said Hastings had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and an intellectual impairment.

She said her client was drunk during the incident at the police station and was remorseful for his actions. Hastings was also charged with one count of evading a fare. He was sentenced to 40 hours of community service.
