Texts too bad to repeat

ONE man's domestic violence threats were so bad, they could not be read out in the Proserpine Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 27-year-old, who appeared in custody, pleaded guilty to five charges.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Glen Whittle said the first breach happened on October 29 about 5.30am at a Bowen address when the man's former parter was driving with a friend and noticed the man driving past. The man's vehicle then made a U-turn and started speeding towards her.

Sgt Whittle said the woman arrived at a friend's house and the man exited his vehicle and started running towards her. Another man tried to step in and they then had a "brawl”.

That same night, the woman was returning home about 9.20pm when the man came running out of her garage towards her. The woman drove off and left. The man then smashed the front windows of the house.

Sgt Whittle said the man started sending her a number of messages.

"It's hard to imagine worse text messages,” he said.

On November 5, police were called about 7.30pm after being notified the man was at the woman's home.

The court heard the man had a problem with the drug ice and had failed to appear at a drug diversion program.

Magistrate Simon Young said the messages were "vile in the extreme” and "involved threats to burn, to kill, to shoot, to commit vile sexual acts upon someone's body and (they) speak about the family”.

"I will not allow children to be in a situation with someone involved with ice,” he said. The man was convicted and sentenced to one month's imprisonment followed by two years probation with urine tests to require negative results.
