The couple that dopes together...
APPEARING in unison in the Proserpine Magistrate's Court on Monday, Gary Leonard Belshaw and Katrina Leigh Belshaw plead guilty to possessing drugs and drug utensils.
At around 11.34am on August 12, police searched the husband and wife's Jubilee Pocket home, with the pair making full admissions.
Officers found 12.8g of cannabis in the couple's bedroom.
"Police further located a water pipe that smelled of burnt cannabis and a glass pipe that was used to smoke methamphetamines,” police prosecutor Acting Senior Constable Tyler Roberts said.
Defence solicitor Kristie Barrett of Macrossan & Amiet said the pair smoked cannabis for back pain.
However, Magistrate Simon Young described the documentation of this as "unpersuasive”.
After hearing submissions, Magistrate Young noted the pair have a child. "I am particularly concerned with a four-year-old in the house both of you seem quite content leaving drug apparatus and drugs around the bedroom,” he said.
Katrina Balshaw was ordered to complete drug diversion and given a six month $600 good behaviour order, while Gary Belshaw was given a $600 fine.
