The fun after the race

THE coveted Great Whitsunday Fun Race on Saturday was again enjoyed by all and not just competitors from the fleet of 62 boats performing in Pioneer Bay, but also the 500 plus people who partied at the Whitsunday Sailing after the on-the-water festivities.

Once across the finish line, the competitors enjoyed the pristine conditions with water fights while the Figure Head judges skippered by the Whitsunday Sailing Club Commodore Kevin Fogarty were busy handing out free party entry tickets to all the fun-loving girls who removed their tops to be the traditional ‘figure heads' of the day.

Slowly boats returned to the marina or their moorings and went ashore to enjoy the evening's festivities.

With The David Flower Band and MTVD playing and the promise of Mr Six-Pack and Miss Figure Head competitions, the Sailing Club and grounds were packed with locals and visitors enjoying the night.

As usual, it was the Miss Figure Head comp that bought the most noise, with 10 beauties displaying their assets for a chance at $1000 cash finally won by Liz Rogan.

Mr Fogarty said the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all who participated and he looked forward to an even bigger and better 2011.

“This day is a huge amount of work for the club volunteers with the set up, the officiating on the water and the evening party, but it is such an anticipated day by so many, that we come back every year. Everyone was well behaved and had a great day on the water and back on land and we would love to see even more people coming to play next year.”

As well as the on-the-water results which were won overall by Cynophobe, there were also the usual highly competitive novelty awards.
