The Office is coming back

AMERICAN sitcom The Office is the latest comedy series set for a reboot.

Sources told TVLine that US TV network NBC is planning to bring back The Office - the American spin-off of the cult British series of the same name - for the 2018-2019 season.

The series would again be set at Dunder Mifflin's Scranton office but starring a mixture of new and old characters, the source told TVLine.

But the site reports Steve Carell, whose role as clueless boss Michael Scott in The Office made him a huge Hollywood star, will not be part of the reboot.

NBC has so far not confirmed the reports.

The network this year launched a highly successful revival of Will & Grace, which has been nominated for next month's Golden Globes.

"We often talk about The Office," NBC president Bob Greenblatt previously told Deadline, according to TVLine.

"I've talked to (Office producer) Greg (Daniels) four times over the past few years.

"It's always, 'Maybe someday, but not now'.

"There is certainly an open invitation, but we don't have anything happening right now. If he wants to do it, I would do it."
