Thieves caught on camera

THIEVES have been caught on camera repeatedly stealing from donation bins at the St Vincent de Paul Society's Airlie Beach shop.

Townsville Central Council president Peter Daniel has said if these people are in real need they just need to ask for help.

"There is no need to steal from the bins if you are in real need," he said.

"We are here to help people, they just need to ask.

"We know people are doing it tough and we are always at the ready to help."

The thieves have been recorded by the shop's security camera stealing from the bins.

Mr Daniel thanked the community for their ongoing generosity and hoped to discourage any more thefts.

"Winter is a hard time for a lot of people as it is and people stealing from bins is simply not necessary and disadvantaging people that come to us for help," he said.

"We are always in need of blankets and warmer clothing at this time of year so please think of us if you are doing a clean out."

Anyone interested in making a donation to the St Vincent de Paul winter appeal should phone 131 812 or visit www.vinnies.org.au.
