Thieves stole my brother's ashes

A HEARTBROKEN Hervey Bay man is pleading with thieves who ransacked his home this week to return a box containing his brother's ashes.

Hairdresser Corey Roberts is devastated the wooden box was among items stolen from his Wondunna lounge room on Monday night.

He has been unable to bring himself to break the news to his mother.

Thieves broke in while Corey and his partner were sleeping.

While the intruders took many valuables including Christmas presents from under the tree and computer equipment, Corey says the material loss is insignificant compared with the loss of the precious box.

"It is just a varnished pine box not marked with anything," Corey said

"It is of no value to anyone, it means nothing to anyone else but it means everything to me."

It has been 13 years since Corey's brother Conrad passed away but the pain has not eased and this time of the year is particularly hard.

Not only is Christmas almost here, but this weekend Corey will also celebrate his birthday.

His mother has yet to hear the news.

"She has been away on holidays and I have not told her they are missing. I am hoping I get them back before she gets here.

"Even if someone just wants to leave them in my yard I would be extremely grateful."

The items were taken from Pinehurst Drive.

Anyone with information can phone Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
