Thieves strike again in Proserpine

A NEW spate of break-ins on Friday night in Proserpine kept the Whitsunday Forensic Investigation Unit busy on Monday.

At least two men forced their way into the Proserpine Museum, Parnell's Metal Industries and Carlisle Tractors on the Bruce Highway between 11.25pm and 12am.

One man wearing thongs and the other in bare feet broke a window to rob Parnell's Metal Industries and forced a security screen to enter the Proserpine Museum.

War medals and an undisclosed sum of money was stolen from a safe at the museum.

Police investigators were at the scene on Monday taking pictures, dusting for finger prints and recording shoe patterns left during the burglaries.

CCTV cameras captured low quality still images of the thieves and police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that may lead to the thieves' arrest.

This most recent series of burglaries is one in a spate of nocturnal thievery in Proserpine this year.

In May the Climate Classics store was broken into and watches stolen - two men were charged in relation to this incident.

In April jewellery and a generator were stolen from a Proserpine business and earlier this year Cane Country Tyres, the Home Hardware store and the BP on the Bruce Highway have all been targets of thieves.

Senior Sergeant Mark Flynn of the Proserpine Police condemned the thieves.

"The actions of the individuals involved was disgraceful and has a direct effect on the community," he said.
