Things looking brighter for Easter

THE Easter holiday period is looking good for tourism operators in the Whitsundays with bookings coming in.

Tourism Whitsundays chief executive Peter O'Reilly said most caravan parks were already booked out and a number of apartments in Airlie Beach were starting to fill up.

He said this was a positive sign that the Whitsunday tourism industry would have a good Easter holiday season.

Mr O'Reilly said some accommodation operators still had availability and were ready to take bookings in hostels and island resorts as well as some in other types of accommodation.

“We are seeing excellent support in the southern news media and travel media to promote Whitsundays and Queensland deals before, during and after Easter to try and spur Australians to support Queensland's tourism industry following our horrific start to the year,” he said.

“So hopefully that will see the rest of the region filled and Easter a huge success for our tourism operators.”
