Thirty years at the show and still going strong
SHE has been a steward at the Show Whitsunday for more than 30 years, yesterday Eileen Cameron shared the reasons behind her life-long commitment to the show.
Ms Cameron joined the Proserpine Orchid and Foliage Society in 1985.
The treasurer's name was Emily Thomas and she was also a steward at the Proserpine Show and was looking for young people to join the Show Society.
Since then Ms Cameron has attended every Show Whitsunday as a steward that looks after the arts, crafts, photography and flower displays in the main pavilion.
Ms Cameron is responsible for the way the display in the pavilion looks, she organises and take entries for all the different categories before judging, she sells raffle tickets and then oversees the packing down of the exhibits after the show.
Being involved in a community event is what keeps Ms Cameron coming back.
"We are all volunteers and are all in it together. If you don't have your volunteers you don't have a show," she said.
"We are putting it on for the public of Proserpine for them to see something".
Thirty years into her commitment her service shows no sign of wavering.
"I just hope I can still be involved because I enjoy the company and the challenge," she said.
