Three Lismore men accused of rampage on international flight

AN ALLEGED alcoho and drug-fuelled rampage by three Lismore men on a wild flight from Kuala Lumpur to the Gold Coast last month saw two of the men handcuffed on captain's orders and the trio arrested by Federal Police.

Brothers Nicholas and Mark Elvish and mate Marley Galpin faced Coolangatta Magistrates Court on Monday charged with offensive and disorderly conduct on an aircraft, interfering with cabin crew and failing to comply with directions on an aircraft.

The charges relate to their alleged behaviour on an Air Asia X flight on February 12, News Limited reported.

Witnesses told the Australian Federal Police the Lismore trio was allegedly seen drinking duty free vodka and popping sleeping pills at Kuala Lumpur airport before boarding the flight to Coolangatta.

The men unleashed a "tirade of verbal abuse and threats" against passengers after running up and down the aisles, stealing pillows and blankets from business class passengers soon after takeoff, the court heard.

Australian Federal Police facts stated the men allegedly threatened passengers saying "We're going to stab you in the neck and shiv you in the kid

neys. We are going to teach you to respect us."

The men allegedly threatened to get "20 of our ice-head mates to meet us out the front of the airport when we arrive to slice you all up".

On captain's orders, Mark Elvish, 20, and Galpin, 21, were handcuffed, while Nicholas Elvish, 19, fell asleep and didn't need restraining.

Representing the trio, Byron Bay solicitor John Weller told the court all three men would plead guilty at their next appearance on March 31.

The trio remain free on bail until then.
