INTERNET search giant Google has unveiled its latest toy - computerised eyewear.

The abilities and functions of Google Glass were shown off in a video posted online today.

Two little words, "OK Glass", is all it takes to bring up a menu of options in  the first person view headset.

From there, users can take a photo, record a video, search the internet, send messages and make a call.

Americans have been invited to apply for the chance to trial a prototype version of Google Glass through a Twitter competition using the hastag #ifihadglass.

However the trial hasn't been made available to Australians.

The Project Glass Google Plus page has already apologised to those outside the US unable to take part in the Glass Explorer Program.

Google expects Glass to be ready for consumers in 2014.
