Tight win for Whitsunday FC

SOCCER: With their season winding down, Whitsunday FC Premier Men snatched a late 1-0 win over City Brothers in Mackay on Saturday.

In a tight affair, Whitsunday left it to the last five minutes with Ryan Lee slotting the winner.

Whitsunday FC's Anthony Nobilia said it was always a tough test against City Brothers.

"They're always tough to beat. We've struggled against them the last couple of games," he said.

After a couple of tough defeats, Whitsunday have slipped out of the top two but will claim a spot in the finals.

With only one regular season fixture remaining, Nobilia said it was the right win at the right time.

"It's a good to win a game like that going into the final series," he said.

Whitsunday Reserves put up a fight but couldn't hold out City Brothers as they lost 3-0.

Whitsunday Ladies continued their strong run of form as they claimed a 7-1 win over Magpies Women Spirit.
