Titans jump into top eight
GOLD Coast flyer James Roberts scored a double and was denied the potential try of the year as the Titans continued a weekend of NRL upsets with a 28-14 win over the heavyweight Bulldogs at Cbus Stadium.
The game was locked at 10-10 at half-time after an amazing passage of play sparked by an Aidan Sezer 40-20 kick which led to a try after the siren to winger Kevin Gordon.
But it was nothing compared to the play of the game in the 56th minute which produced the best cover tackle seen since Scott Sattler's grand final try saver for Penrith against the Roosters in 2003.
Roberts gambled on running the ball of the last tackle 10 metres out from his own try line before sending a magical spiralling pass out to Brad Tighe who looked certain to score before Bulldogs half Moses Mbye pulled off an amazing tackle coming from the opposite side of the field.
Winger Curtis Rona put the Bulldogs up 4-0 crossing for his 14th try of the season in the fifth minute off a Titans error before his opposite Roberts levelled with a ninth minute try.
Bulldogs man mountain Sam Kasiano used his enormous size to muscle over for a converted try in the 29th minute.
The win moved the Titans into the top eight as one of six teams on 14 points.
