TMR office vacancy has got Costigan frustrated
FRUSTRATION is building in Proserpine because the Transport and Main Roads (TMR) office has not re-opened since the premises was badly damaged during Cyclone Debbie.
But TMR only leases the building and is currently attempting to find out how the owner intends to proceed.
State Member for Whitsunday Jason Costigan claims the Queensland government is ignoring the issue.
"The Government has a duty to rebuild government offices," he said.
"We're getting the impression on the streets of Proserpine that the Transport and Main Roads office may never re-open.
"We've had various ministers roll into town and say nothing about what's happening with a core government service. By default, people are being asked to go to Cannonvale and have their business processed.
"The bottom line is, I want a TMR office back in Proserpine and more and more people are getting the impression it isn't going to happen."
A TMR spokesperson did not say when the TMR office might re-open.
"The Proserpine customer service centre sustained severe damage as a result of the impact of Cyclone Debbie," the spokesperson said.
"Currently, the property has no roof or ceiling and requires extensive repairs and refitting."
However today (Tuesday), TMR set up a mobile customer service centre at the Proserpine Train Station carpark.
The mobile centre will be open from 9am-4.30pm, Monday to Friday until further notice.
Mr Costigan said the government would have done something last week if "they were serious".
