The Toowoomba principal paid more than the Premier

THE salary of a Toowoomba headmaster has been revealed as one of the highest in the state, paid more than the Queensland premier.

State media reports that Toowoomba Grammar School headmaster Peter Hauser rakes in $489,000 a year compared with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk who earn $385,720.

Mr Hauser's salary is on par with other grammar school principals including Townsville Grammar's Richard Fairley who earns $480,000 and Brisbane Grammar's Anthony Micallef who get $467,000.

The salaries were revealed in annual reports tabled in the Queensland Parliament.

The amount is almost triple what is earned by a state school principal who earn between $110,000 and $158,260.

Toowoomba Grammar School was contacted for comment but declined.
